Susan Sassi Brings Toots McApplesauce to South Pasadena July 17

Los Angeles-based writer, comedian, and performer Susan Sassi will present AN EVENING WITH TOOTS MCAPPLESAUCE: ONLY SLIGHTLY MISBEHAVING on Friday, July 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Visionarium Live Italian in South Pasadena.
The show introduces audiences to Toots McApplesauce, Sassi’s vintage-inspired cabaret character: elegant, theatrical, and just a little bit lost in the filing cabinet of her own mind. Blending classic songs, comedy, storytelling, and light audience interaction, AN EVENING WITH TOOTS MCAPPLESAUCE: ONLY SLIGHTLY MISBEHAVING offers an intimate night of old-school charm, musical mischief, and modern comic timing.
Sassi describes the character as a 1940s-style woman who appears polished on the outside, while her brain operates more like a junk drawer. The show combines live vocals, comic monologues, playful improvisation, and a warm cabaret atmosphere designed for audiences who enjoy vintage entertainment, character comedy, musical storytelling, and a touch of lovingly ridiculous absurdity.
Sassi’s background includes musical theatre, improv, sketch comedy, solo performance, and satire writing. Her work has been recognized by Austin Film Festival, Women In Film, CineStory, Fresh Voices, Stage 32, ScreenCraft, and The Breakk. Her humor writing has appeared in MCSWEENEY’S, THE BELLADONNA, WEEKLY HUMORIST, SLACKJAW, ROBOT BUTT, JANE AUSTEN’S WASTEBASKET, LITTLE OLD LADY COMEDY, GREENER PASTURES, and PLATYPUS NEWS.
Visionarium Live Italian is located in South Pasadena and hosts live music, performance, and community events. Tickets for the July 17 performance are $25 and apply toward the venue’s $30 food and beverage minimum, making it an evening of dinner, drinks, and a comedy cabaret show.
