Jon Baskin

Jon is from New York City, two hours south of the small Connecticut town where he grew up. He writes character driven scripts with a spectrum of voices drawn from his middle-class upbringing. His comedy pilot was a 2024 Austin Finalist and his coming of age drama feature was a 2021 Nicholl Semifinalist. He has directed and edited a handful of festival darling documentaries- films about poets, true crime, a drag artist, and an indie LA band. Gaining an understanding of the method around editing madness, Jon has enjoyed a successful career cutting everything from GM commercials to 48 Hours and Forensic Files. A collection of those work experiences infused his MFA thesis pilot “Recre”, the story of a true crime producer and a fugitive who partner to solve crimes. Jon has also taught screenwriting and production at NYU, Rider and Stony Brook University.
