Writer and performer Susan Sassi’s play THE UNSCREWING OF THE SCREW was selected as a Top 30 play for Centre Stage Greenville’s 24th Annual New Play Festival, chosen from more than 600 submissions.
The festival highlights new theatrical writing and gives selected pieces an opportunity to be read, developed, or presented as part of a curated lineup. Sassi’s selected work reflects her ongoing interest in character-driven comedy, heightened language, emotionally grounded absurdity, and stories with feminist themes.
Sassi is a Los Angeles-based writer, performer, and comedian whose work spans theatre, satire, solo performance, cabaret, and screenwriting. Her writing has been recognized by several competitions and organizations, including Austin Film Festival, Women In Film, CineStory, Fresh Voices, Stage 32, ScreenCraft, and The Breakk. Her satire and humor writing has appeared in publications including MCSWEENEY’S, THE BELLADONNA, WEEKLY HUMORIST, SLACKJAW, ROBOT BUTT, JANE AUSTEN’S WASTEBASKET, LITTLE OLD LADY COMEDY, GREENER PASTURES, and PLATYPUS NEWS.
In addition to her writing, Sassi performs interactive music and comedy programs for senior communities, public events, and cabaret audiences. Her theatrical background includes musical theatre, improv, sketch comedy, and solo performance, all of which inform her writing style.
The 30th Place Play Festival selection continues Sassi’s recent momentum as she develops new theatrical and comedic work for live audiences.
