PUNK NEVER DIES Lands on Wscripted's 6th Cannes Screenplay List
Lindsay Stidham's original feature screenplay PUNK NEVER DIES has been selected for Wscripted's sixth annual Cannes Screenplay List, presented in partnership with MUBI. The list spotlights standout scripts by female and non-binary filmmakers and screenwriters seeking producing and financing partners. This year's roster includes 30 projects chosen from 300 submissions.
Inspired by true events from the 1978 Los Angeles punk scene, PUNK NEVER DIES is a female-forward, music-first story that grew out of a talk Stidham gave at the Ebell on Madame Wong's — the storied venue at the heart of L.A.'s late-'70s and early-'80s punk movement. Stidham has been developing the project in conjunction with producer Joyce Liu-Countryman.
Recognition from the Cannes Screenplay List carries real momentum: past nominees have gone on to land major deals, including Nathalie Marchak's A Beautiful Journey, now set to star Shailene Woodley, and Jumai Yusuf's Cocoa Doll, which secured a pre-sale after appearing on the Second Cannes Screenplay List.
PUNK NEVER DIES is now seeking co-production and financing partners to bring the story to the screen. With its blend of music, history, and an underrepresented chapter of L.A.'s cultural landscape, the project joins a growing wave of female-driven films aiming to expand whose stories get told in Hollywood.
