David Hal Chester
With the promise of a futon to sleep on, David left L.A. for Tokyo after a family tragedy — and never looked back. In Japan, he channeled the angst of his broken home and queerness into female-driven dysfunctional family dramas. The result to date: 10 produced features streaming on Lifetime or Amazon Prime, an international prize-winning LGBTQ short film, and two multi-finalist feature screenplays. David has benefited greatly from Roadmap Writers’ Top Tier group, Corey Mandell screenwriting workshops and mentoring by writer/producer Ellen Sandler (“Everybody Loves Raymond”). When David isn’t obsessing over his latest WIP, he’s either learning how to cook a new gourmet dish, practicing his kanji, or teaching fun dance moves to his mini-doxie Dandy.
